WhatsApp finally lets you format text.

When sending messages, you can add certain characters to format text, these characters can be added before or after words or sentences, they make messages go Bold, Italic or appear to have been
Strikethrough or All Formats.
It’s a small update compared to more recent additions, but WhatsApp now lets you write in different formats.

Strikethrough. This can be used to add emphasis to certain words and means the app is taking even further aim at email and word processing apps.
Bold: Add an asterisk (*) before and after the specific words or phrases you want to embolden e.g. *test*
Strikethrough: Add a tilde (~) before and after the words or phrases you want to strike a line through e.g. ~test~
Italics: Add an underscore (_) before and after the chosen words or phrases e.g. _test_
